Ben Giesbrecht, Principal
Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, Ben immigrated to Canada at two years old. After a brief stint in Ontario, Ben’s family moved to Northern Alberta. Of the 38 years living in the area, Ben was away for seven while pursuing post-secondary education – returning each summer. With financial incentives to promote further education and opportunities to advance into leadership positions, FVSD has always been Ben’s first choice and he appreciates how the Division looks after it’s own. Having taught all grades from K-12 and everything from Phys Ed to Bio 30, Ben is in his 16th year with FVSD and is currently Principal at HCCS.
Hands down, the best thing about our region is the people. Ben finds the diversity in our area incredible and feels it’s a huge asset to our education system.
“Obviously [looking forward to] the interactions of our staff and students throughout the school. We have missed being together and it is a huge part of our Chill Crest culture!”
Mark Pelley, Assistant Principal
Initially moving to the region from Newfoundland as the administrator of a private school, Mark joined the FVSD team after three years in that position. He has worked within FVSD for the last six years, starting out in Zama City before moving to BHCS. Mark is currently part of the HCCS team as an Assistant Principal and Grade 2 teacher.
After nine years in the region, Mark has grown to love the long summer days and the beautiful winter sunrises.
“I am looking forward to working with HCCS and getting to know the parents and students and to growing my practice and skill set with the division.”
